Family Classes

Enso offers a number of “Family” classes in which adults and youth train together. This is a great opportunity for parents and children to learn and enjoy karate in the same class. Students from the same household who are enrolled concurrently can each take a family discount of $10 off the session tuition.

Earning Belt Ranks and Stripes

In traditional karate, the belt testing system is used to help students set goals and improve. To achieve the level of black belt, a typical Youth Karate student will practice consistently for 5 years. (There are ten belt levels from white belt to black belt.) For Kinder Karate students, we have designed a “stripe” system for rewarding participation, attitude, and skills over shorter periods of time.

Why Teach Karate to Kids?

We believe that martial arts training is not only a way to learn how to defend oneself in a physical situation, but a is a “way of life” that teaches self-control, discipline, respect, confidence, and mental focus. Especially for young students, we believe these are the skills that can help them handle difficult situations and avoid getting into trouble. The physical aspects of karate training provide a fun form of exercise that can help develop healthy attitudes toward fitness that can benefit them in karate and other sports as they grow older.

Testimonials

Throughout the years, [my son] has developed interests in additional activities, but I am firm that he continues with Enso as they provide an environment that is wonderful for both children and adults alike. The fact that he also enjoys being there does not hurt, either. Their atmosphere provides a great center for learning not only the art of Shotokan, but encourages growth, discipline and leadership within each student. I feel that the methods in which they conduct their classes are true to the goal of teaching Karate by instilling structure with a balance of fun.
My 10 year old has been training at Enso for nearly three years. In that time, his coordination, discipline, and teamwork have all improved markedly (as have his punches, blocks and kicks!) The instructors are wonderful; Sensei Jay and Denise have developed a wonderful Karate community in the South Loop. Highly recommended!
